Garbage at TPS 3R Pulogebang Meluber, Residents are Worried it Will Cause Disease

JAKARTA - The pile of garbage at the Reduce-Reuse-Recycle Waste Processing Site (TPS 3R), Jalan Rawa Bebek, Pulogebang, East Jakarta, which spilled onto the shoulders of the road caused residents to be concerned about the spread of various diseases.

"Garbage like this makes us worried, because it is dirty, smelly, can cause diseases, like DBD, diarrhea, or viruses like that," said one of the residents, Jayadi (38) in Pulogebang, East Jakarta, Thursday, quoted by Antara.

According to him, the pungent smell from the garbage is very disturbing for residents and motorists who pass by.

"It smells very pungent, I'm afraid it will become a source of disease. There are many flies, sometimes there are rats. Children or the elderly are prone to illness if this condition is left unchecked," said Jayadi.

He said the condition of the waste pile at the location had been going on for a long time. Moreover, the condition of the garbage at the place is getting more worrying since there are restrictions at the Bantargebang Integrated Waste Processing (TPST) in Bantargebang, Bekasi, West Java.

"So, no trucks came to transport, so it was piled up, it didn't take long to be transported, and now it's piled up again," said Jayadi.

He also asked the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government to immediately find a real solution to deal with the garbage problem in his residence.

"The time to complain must be followed up by the residents. There must be real action, long-term as well, it is difficult about this garbage," said Jayadi.

Similarly, one of the motorcyclists who passed by, Sunaryo (49) also admitted that he was uneasy with the condition of the garbage that had not been controlled by the 3R TPS officers.

"It should be followed up immediately. Hopefully, the garbage will be picked up by the officers so that there will be no more piles of garbage," said Sunaryo.

He also admitted that he was uncomfortable every time he crossed the road because of the disturbing smell of garbage.

"If you go through there, I have to close my nose again, I smell the mask, it's called a lot like this," said Sunaryo.

Based on monitoring, it was seen that the garbage was piled up next to the 3R Pulogebang TPS building. The condition of the scattered garbage was also seen on the other side.

A number of motorcyclists who passed by looked uncomfortable. They covered their noses because of the pungent smell of garbage.

Previously, the East Jakarta City Government encouraged the sorting of waste from its source, namely households, to reduce the burden of disposal at the Bantargebang Waste Management Center.

"The government encourages the public to start reducing the volume of waste and sorting it from the source, namely households, to regulate disposal at the Bantargebang Waste Management Facility," said East Jakarta Mayor Munjirin at the East Jakarta Mayor's Office, Tuesday, April 7.

He said his party collaborated with the Ciracas Plastic Recycling Center (PDUP) to manage inorganic waste.

In addition, the Waste Bank Task Force (Satgas) in each village which has been formed through the Mayor's Circular Letter Number e-0005/SE/2026 has also been optimized.

The task force is tasked with coordinating the delivery of inorganic waste from the Waste Bank Unit to the Ciracas Waste Management Center, as well as reporting activities through the online system that has been provided.
