NABIRE - The circulation of hoax photos claiming to be victims of riots in Dogiyai Regency, but it turns out to be an old documentation from another region.
Head of Public Relations of the Central Papua Police AKBP I Made Suartika, said the photo that was widely circulated on social media and chat applications was proven not related to the latest incident in Dogiyai.
"The spread of this false information has the potential to mislead the public and at the same time complicate the security situation in the Central Papua region," said Suartika, quoted by Antara, Tuesday, April 7.
He said, a photo circulated on social media was posted by the KNPB News Nabire account and widely spread through the WhatsApp application, which was claimed to be a riot in the Dogiyai area.
After being traced on social media, the Facebook accounts of (LL) and (AP) were found, it was found that the photos and documentation that were circulating were not an incident in Dogiyai, but an incident that occurred in the Sanggeng area, Manokwari Regency, West Papua.
"This information is a hoax post that has the potential to mislead the public and complicate the security situation," he said.
In addition, there are also images circulating on social media which are claimed to be victims of riots in Dogiyai on March 31, 2026 and have been published in the news of one of the media in Papua on April 3, 2026.
However, after being traced, it turned out that the photo was not a new event but the same picture had been published earlier in one of the media in Papua on February 27, 2026.
"Thus, the narrative that says that the incident in the picture happened on March 31, 2026 in Dogiyai is not true (hoaks). the picture is an old photo," he said.
He ensured that the security conditions in Dogiyai are currently safe and conducive, although the police still increase patrols and surveillance to anticipate potential kamtibmas disturbances.
The Central Papua Police appealed to the public not to easily believe in information that does not have a clear source, not to spread unverified content, and to jointly maintain a conducive security situation.
"With this clarification, it is hoped that the public will be wiser in accepting and filtering information so that they are not affected by issues that can break unity," he said.
