Fatal Accident in Batang, Police Arrested the Guard of the Train Crossing

BATANG - The Batang Police, Central Java, have named the gate guard of the train crossing with the initials SYW as a suspect for negligence in duty until killing a motorcyclist, Tofan Deky Kurniawan (52), a resident of East Pekalongan, Pekalongan City.

The Head of the Batang Police, AKBP Veronica, said that the determination of the suspect was made after the police found that the suspect's negligence was not closing the crossing gate when the train passed and at the same time the victim passed through the crossing.

"The victim died after the motorcycle he was riding was hit by a train because the crossing gate was not closed," said Veronica, quoted by Antara, Tuesday, April 7.

He, accompanied by Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit Iptu Albertus Sudaryono, said the suspect was known as a government employee with a part-time work agreement (PPPK) at the Batang Regency Transportation Office.

The accident that killed the motorcyclist began when the suspect was on duty on the morning shift at Post 95, Kasepuhan Village, Batang City District.

At that time, at around 09.55 WIB, the suspect received information through a handy talky (HT) from the crossing officer at Post 90 on Jalan RE Martadinata regarding the arrival of a train that would pass from the east (Semarang).

"The information was clear and was answered by the suspect through HT. After that, communication between the post continued, including from Post 91 which reported that the train had passed but the suspect did not respond to the follow-up information," he said.

He said that for his actions, the suspect would be charged with Article 474 Paragraph (3) of the Criminal Code and Article 475 Paragraph (!) related to negligence that caused another person to die.

"Currently, the case is still in the process of further investigation," he said.
