PAN Calls Ridwan Kamil To Take The Position Of Vice Presidential Candidate In The 2024 Presidential Election

JAKARTA - The 2024 presidential election contestation will be held in three years. However, the names of the candidates have started to appear. One of them is the Governor of West Java, Ridwan Kamil.

However, Ridwan Kamil's name is not consistently in the top three in surveys. Secretary General of PAN Eddy Soeparno said the recent survey results indicated that there were three names of figures who had high electability.

These three figures are Prabowo Subianto, Ganjar Pranowo, and Anies Baswedan. According to Eddy, the top three electability of presidential candidates in the 2024 presidential election only revolves around those 3 names. That is, no one shifts their position from the top three positions.

"If it moves, it's just between themselves. There is no one from positions 4 and 5 to the top three. We see Prabowo, the party leader, Ganjar, a genuine political party cadre but not the party's main policy maker. Anies doesn't have a party. So here are 3 candidates who have high electability with different characters from one another," he said in a virtual discussion, Saturday, June 5.

According to Eddy, what is interesting is that Ridwan Kamil, who has the potential to become a presidential candidate, has begun to lower the level of competition. Eddy assesses Ridwan Kamil is starting to position himself as a candidate for vice president (cawapres).

"If you look at the last podcast from Kang Emil, it seems that you can't replace yourself as a vice presidential candidate," he said.

Eddy likens Kang Emil to a tea drink with a well-known brand. Where this beverage product has the tagline "Whatever the food, drink it Teh Botol."

"It's like eating anything, whoever the presidential candidate is, but I am the vice president. That was Kang Emil's narration at that time," he explained.

Furthermore, Eddy considered Ridwan Kamil to have a political track record like President Joko Widodo (Jokowi). "The mayor has succeeded, the governor is running. In the future, it may be to the center," he said.

According to Eddy, the figure of Ridwan Kamil cannot be underestimated in the 2024 presidential election. This is because the local government has 12 million followers or followers on social media. Eddy assessed that this was Ridwan Kamil's big capital.

"So I think to attract millennials who are very diligent and very dedicated to following issues on social media, I think Kang Emil has big capital there plus the voice of West Java," he said.
