TANJUNG SELOR - The North Kalimantan Provincial Agriculture and Food Security Agency (DPKP) through the Animal Husbandry Sector held a coordination meeting (Rakor) with districts/cities, Bulog, and livestock associations, on Wednesday, April 1.

The forum, which was held offline and online, was a response to farmers' complaints about high feed prices, especially for poultry and livestock businesses.

Head of the Kaltara DPKP, Heri Rudiyono, through the Head of the Animal Husbandry Sector (Kabid), Surianto Semuel, said the meeting was a concrete step for the local government to unite perceptions and formulate solutions to the problem of production costs that are increasing due to the high cost of feed manufacturers.

"Through this forum, it was agreed that a facilitation scheme would be provided for farmers to obtain corn as feed raw materials at a more affordable price through Bulog," said Surianto, Thursday (2/4/2026).

"And the distribution mechanism will be carried out through the association of farmers to ensure targeted distribution," he continued.

Surianto explained, In the scheme, the farmer association first collects and reports the data on corn needs to the service in each district/city.

"The data was then forwarded to the Provincial Agriculture and Food Security Agency of Kaltara Province to be further conveyed to the National Food Agency (Bapanas)," he said.

Furthermore, Bapanas will forward the proposal to Bulog central for the issuance of a Decree (SK) on the determination of corn needs in Kaltara.

"After that, Bulog Kaltara region will accommodate the distribution of corn according to the needs of farmers in the area," he explained.

Surianto emphasized that the purchase price of corn from farmers was set at Rp6,400 per kilogram (Kg) at the Bulog warehouse, or Rp5,500 per kilogram if picked up directly at the farmer's location.

"Farmers can also buy corn through an association at a price of Rp. 5,500 per kilogram. Through this mechanism, it is hoped that feed prices can be suppressed, so as to help farmers, especially egg-laying poultry, in maintaining business continuity," he said.

He added that the results of the meeting were also agreed to complete the data on corn needs from regencies/cities to be reported to the provincial level to be immediately followed up with the central government.

"With the realization of this program, the government hopes to answer the concerns of farmers about the high price of corn as well as reduce the cost of feed production, which has an impact on the stability of the livestock sector in Kaltara," he concluded.
