SURABAYA - The Attorney General's Office (Kejagung) removed Joko Budi Darmawan from his position as Assistant General Criminal (Aspidum) of the East Java High Court after the concerned party was secured by the Organizational Resources Security Team (Pam SDO).
The Deputy Attorney General for Intelligence, Reda Manthovani, said the removal of the position was carried out to facilitate the process of clarification on alleged irregularities in handling the case.

He explained that this step was a follow-up to a public report. In addition to Aspidum, a number of section heads (kasi) were also examined in the case.
According to him, the intelligence sector has a special directorate that is tasked with monitoring the behavior of prosecutors in handling cases through closed working methods.
"The first step is to secure the human resources. We clarify it silently, looking for evidence, for example, through CCTV or other approaches. It's like taking a needle in a haystack, but if the report is strong and supported by two valid pieces of evidence, we won't hesitate," he said.
Reda emphasized that the removal of the position was a first step to maintain the objectivity of the clarification process.
If no criminal elements are found but there is a violation of ethics, he continued, the case will be handed over to the supervision sector.
However, if there is an element of bribery or extortion, the case will be referred to the Special Criminal Division for legal processing.
Previously, Joko Budi Darmawan was secured by the Pam SDO Team and taken to Jakarta. The former head of the Surabaya District Attorney's Office was said to have been secured before the Eid al-Fitr, namely on March 18, 2026.
