JAKARTA - The Indonesian Law Care Society Committee (KMPHI) urges President Prabowo Subianto to immediately form a Joint Fact-Finding Team (TGPF) to thoroughly investigate the terror case against KontraS activist Andrie Yunus, including uncovering the intellectual actors behind the event.
The demand was conveyed in a public discussion entitled "Monitoring the Investigation of the Complete Case of the Aktivis KontraS Terrorist: Transfer of Cases to the TNI Police, Legal Solution or Controversy?" which was held in Central Jakarta, Wednesday, March 1.
Imparsial researcher, Riyadh Putuhena, emphasized that the establishment of the TGPF was an important step to ensure that the case was investigated transparently and thoroughly.
"This case cannot be seen as a single event. We urge that a TGPF be immediately formed to reveal it in the open, including who the intellectual actors behind the terror against Andrie Yunus are," said Riyadh.
According to him, the handling of the case so far is considered not to be fully open, especially after the transfer of cases from the police to the TNI Military Police Center (Puspom).
"The process seems closed. The public does not get adequate information, even though this case concerns the safety of civilians and freedom of opinion," he said.
Riyadh also assessed that the case was related to the advocacy activities carried out by Andrie Yunus, including on the issue of militarism and security sector reform.
Meanwhile, the activist of the Indonesian Muslim Student Association (SEMMI), Muh Walid, assessed that until now the handling of the case still leaves many questions.
"From the beginning, this case has created more controversy than clarity. The public does not know who the perpetrator is and what his motives are," said Walid.
He emphasized the importance of the law enforcement authorities' firmness in following up the case openly.
"Don't let this case stop without clarity. There must be transparency so that public confidence is not lost," he said.
The Director of KMPHI, Rovly Azadi Rengirit, also highlighted the transfer of cases to the TNI Puspom which he considered had the potential to hinder openness of information.
According to him, although the military court has authority, the handling process must still be accessible to the public.
"If handled by the military court, transparency must be guaranteed. The public has the right to know who the perpetrators, motives, and intellectual actors are," said Rovly.
He also assessed that the transfer of handling from the National Police to the TNI Puspom in the midst of the investigation process had caused controversy in the community.
"This then raises concerns, because the process is not completely open. In fact, there have been initial findings from the police," he said.
KMPHI assessed that the establishment of the TGPF was a crucial step to ensure that the case was investigated independently, transparently, and accountable, and was able to reveal all parties responsible.
