JAKARTA - Minister of Manpower (Menaker) Yassierli said that private companies can determine their own work from home (WFH) implementation day one day a week flexibly according to their operational needs and policies.

Yassierli said that private parties have the discretion to determine the day of implementation of WFH according to the policies of their respective companies, so that it can be different from the civil servants (ASN) who carry out WFH on Fridays.

"The problem of the day (implementation of WFH) for private workers is that when there are many choices of days (companies can choose). (However) when you want to be in line with ASN friends, the choice is, it can be Friday," he said, quoted by Antra, Wednesday, April 1.

According to him, when there are many options for the day of implementation, companies can adjust to the policies of the civil service, including choosing Friday if it is considered in line with and relevant to the company's operational needs.

However, he admitted that each company has its own characteristics and uniqueness so that the technical arrangements for implementing WFH are still entirely left to each company according to the prevailing conditions and needs.

"But each company certainly has its own characteristics, its own uniqueness so that technically we return to each company," he said.

He emphasized that the determination of the day of implementation of WFH was not regulated by the government because the policy was an appeal so that flexibility was the main consideration for companies. The final decision remains with each company.

Furthermore, Yassierli explained that the evaluation of the WFH policy for private workers, including SOEs, and BUMD will follow the same mechanism as the implementation of ASN, namely within a period of two months.

He said the policy was a package, so that the evaluation was carried out thoroughly on the implementation of the WFH appeal.

"What will be evaluated is related to the WFH appeal," he said.

Previously, Yassierli appealed to the leaders of private companies, SOEs to BUMD to implement WFH activities to employees one day a week. The implementation of WFH is effective as of April 1, 2026.

"We want this April 1 to be a national momentum together. So this appeal can be followed to be implemented effectively starting today," he said.

In the Circular Letter (SE) of the Minister of Manpower of the Republic of Indonesia Number M/6/HK.04/III/2026 concerning Work From Home and Energy Utilization Optimization Program at the Workplace, companies are still required to provide workers' rights even if WFH is carried out, such as salaries must remain full until annual leave.

In addition, the implementation of WFH has an exception for companies operating in the energy sector, health, infrastructure and public services, retail/trade, industry and production, services, food and beverages, transportation and logistics, to finance.
