JAKARTA - The National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) has assessed at least 12 people who are suspected of being threatened in connection with handling the case of violence against KontraS activist Andrie Yunus.

This step is carried out as part of efforts to protect parties involved in the process of revealing the case, including witnesses, companions, and parties who are actively voicing the matter.

The coordinator of the Human Rights Enforcement Sub-Commission and Komnas HAM Mediation Commissioner Pramono Ubaid Tanthowi said the assessment is still ongoing to determine the level of risk and protection needs.

"We are assessing 12 people," he said, quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, April 1.

He said there were indications of threats experienced by a number of parties who are currently being mapped by Komnas HAM.

"There are indications of threats to at least 12 people," he said.

According to Pramono, the form of threats that emerge generally occurs in the digital space, including through social media and other online communications.

Komnas HAM also emphasized that the identity of the party who was threatened could not be revealed to the public in order to maintain their safety.

"We can't mention the names of these 12 people for safety," he said.

In addition to the assessment, Komnas HAM conducted mapping and profiling of emerging threat patterns, including possible inter-actor linkages.

This effort is to ensure that all parties involved in the legal process receive adequate protection, so that law enforcement efforts by the police can proceed without pressure or intimidation.
