Mourning 3 Indonesian Peacekeepers Killed, Puan Urges UN to Act

JAKARTA - The Chair of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, mourned the deaths of 3 TNI soldiers who served as United Nations Peacekeepers in Lebanon (United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon/UNIFIL) as a result of the Israeli attack. He encouraged the United Nations to act as a step of international responsibility.

"On behalf of the DPR RI and personally, I express my deep sorrow for the deaths of 3 children who are carrying out humanitarian duties in Lebanon," said Puan in his statement, Wednesday, April 1.

Puan hopes that this incident will further increase awareness for all parties about the importance of steps and efforts to create peace. Especially for parties that are still at war and are in a protracted geopolitical conflict.

"The war must be stopped immediately! How many victims have fallen for the sake of the power of certain parties. The UN must dare to act decisively," said Puan.

As is known, three TNI soldiers were killed in two separate incidents on March 29 and 30, 2026 in South Lebanon, including a member of the Peacekeeping Contingent named Praka Farizal Rhomadhon.

The death of the 3 TNI soldiers was reported to have occurred amid an escalation of the conflict between the Israeli military (IDF) and Hezbollah. Puan also supports the Government's move to ask relevant authorities to investigate the death of the Indonesian Peace Force.

"The state has the right to hold the international community accountable as a form of protection for every Indonesian blood shed," said the grandson of the Indonesian Proclaimer, Soekarno.

According to Puan, Indonesia's presence in world peace operations has often been understood by the public as only a symbol of the country's active diplomacy. However, he said, the incident in Lebanon shows that behind the symbol there is a real risk that must be read as part of the changing landscape of global conflicts, where the boundaries between war zones, civilian areas, and international protection areas are increasingly blurred.

"When Indonesian soldiers die in peace missions, it shows that Indonesia's commitment to international peace is always paid with a heavy responsibility," said Puan.

"Therefore, the courage of Indonesian troops in the conflict field must always be followed by the country's readiness to ensure that every development of threats is mapped in a more adaptive manner," added the PDIP legislator.

On the other hand, Puan also encouraged the Government and the TNI to give the 3 soldiers who died in Lebanon the respect they deserve. Including by ensuring that their rights as humanitarian heroes are fulfilled.

"The three best sons of Indonesia fell while carrying out the noble duty as world peacekeepers. It is only fitting that the State gives the best possible reward for their sacrifices," concluded Puan.
