JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government (Pemprov) is still preparing to implement a one-day work from home (WFH) policy for state civil servants (ASN) as part of energy saving efforts. However, this policy is not guaranteed to apply on Wednesday.
The Governor of DKI Jakarta, Pramono Anung, emphasized that Wednesday would still be maintained as a day of mandatory use of public transportation for ASN in the DKI Provincial Government environment.
"Regarding the day, of course not Wednesday. Why not Wednesday? Because Wednesday is the day of public transportation (for ASN in the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government)," said Pramono at the DKI Jakarta DPRD building, Monday, March 30.
He explained that if the official WFH policy was implemented, the DKI Provincial Government would choose another day outside Wednesday. This is done so that the policy of using public transportation that is already running is not disrupted.
"So that way, if I am decided by the central government, I will decide outside Wednesday. Because Wednesday is still for public transportation," he said.
Furthermore, Pramono emphasized that the DKI Provincial Government is still waiting for a formal decision from the central government regarding the WFH policy. The regional government, he said, will follow the directions that will be determined nationally.
"So, in principle, as I said, the DKI Jakarta Government will follow what will be the direction and also the regulations that will be officially issued by the central government," he said.
Previously, the Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri) Tito Karnavian assessed that the plan for one day of WFH per week would not interfere with the course of the government. According to Tito, the scheme is not new because the government has experience during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Tito said that discussions on WFH had been carried out in a meeting chaired by the Coordinating Minister for the Economy and accompanied by the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture. However, the results of the meeting have not been announced because they will first be reported to the President.
"It's okay if I do. I'm sure it won't be a problem. Because this is not the first experience," Tito told reporters at the Presidential Palace complex, Jakarta, Wednesday, March 25.
He gave an example, during the pandemic, the Ministry of Home Affairs continued to run even though the work portion from the office at that time was only 25 percent. Therefore, if a similar policy is reapplied, the government is considered to have experience.
Tito also said that the local government was ready to implement the policy. However, the new regional heads would first be given an explanation. He emphasized that essential services must continue to run.
"Essential things such as transportation, then those who serve emergencies, hospitals, hygiene must continue to work," he said.
Regarding the scheme discussed, Tito admitted that he heard that the emerging option was one day a week. Even so, he refused to mention the day chosen because the results of the meeting had not been decided by the President.
According to Tito, after there is a presidential directive, the government will only announce the official decision and prepare a circular, including for the regions.
