JAKARTA - Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar on Sunday said Pakistan would be "honored" to host talks between the United States and Iran to end the long-running conflict in the Middle East.

"Pakistan will be honored to host and facilitate meaningful talks between the two sides in the coming days for a comprehensive and lasting resolution of the conflict," Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said in a video statement hours after a quadrilateral foreign ministers meeting with Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Egypt in the capital Islamabad, as reported by Anadolu (30/3).

Furthermore, Foreign Minister Dar said Washington and Tehran expressed their confidence in Pakistan to facilitate the talks.

He also said he had briefed the main diplomats of Turkey, Pakistan, Egypt and Saudi Arabia who attended a quadrilateral meeting on the prospects for potential US-Iranian talks in Islamabad.

The visiting foreign ministers expressed their full support for the initiative, he said.

"We also discussed possible ways to end the war in the region early and permanently," said Foreign Minister Dar.

"We agree that this war is not beneficial to anyone and will only cause death and destruction," continued Foreign Minister Dar, adding that the foreign ministers agreed that the only "worthy" solution to this conflict is "dialogue and diplomacy."

Senior diplomats, he continued, reiterated "unity to control the situation, reduce the risk of military escalation, and create conditions for structured negotiations between the parties concerned."

They also called for upholding the principles of the UN Charter, including respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries.
