Motive for the murder of the disabled Bawaslu staff revealed, the perpetrator was hurt by the victim often being insulted.

South Ogan Komering Ulu (OKU) Police, South Sumatra revealed the motive for the murder of Maria Simare-mare (36), a staff at the local Bawaslu Secretariat, which occurred on Tuesday (24/3) because the perpetrator was offended by the victim.

South OKU Police Chief AKBP I Made Redi Hartana, quoted by ANTARA, said that based on the results of the examination of the suspect with the initials SH (34) it was revealed that the sadistic murder was committed because of the motive of jealousy.

"The suspect is a resident of Tanjung Baru Village, OKU Regency, who surrendered to the Sukarami Police, Palembang, on Saturday (28/3) at around 12.30 WIB," he said.

He explained, based on the results of the police's interrogation of the suspect, who is none other than the victim's lover, he admitted that he was determined to kill Maria Simare-mare because he was offended by the victim.

"Previously, the perpetrator had stayed at the victim's house in the Bukit Berlian Housing area, Muaradua District, South OKU Regency," he said.

The victim hurled insults and disparaged words that made the perpetrator offended and strangled the victim's neck until he was helpless.

Seeing the victim helpless, the suspect took a knife belonging to him and slit the victim's neck until it was almost broken, causing his death.

"The victim suffered a cut using a sharp weapon on the neck until it was almost broken," he said.

After finding out that the victim was already dead, the perpetrator took the victim's belongings in the form of one laptop, one mobile phone, and cash amounting to Rp. 700,000.

The suspect also took the victim's white Honda Beat motorcycle to flee to Palembang City.

"The suspect and the evidence in the form of the victim's property have now been secured for further legal processing," he said.

The suspect himself will be charged with murder accompanied by other criminal acts as stipulated in Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code with a threat of severe punishment.
