JAKARTA - Minister of Environment (LH) Hanif Faisol Nurofiq said the acceleration of the development of Waste to Energy (PSEL) Semarang Raya is one solution to overcome large-scale waste in the region.
"Although there are many waste management technologies and methods available, large-scale requires high technology. PSEL is a strategic solution because it is able to turn waste into electric energy. However, during the development period, the Governor will lead waste reduction efforts through various available and available technologies," said Hanif in a written statement in Jakarta, Sunday, quoted by Antara.
This was conveyed by Hanif when witnessing the signing of a memorandum of understanding and a cooperation agreement regarding the preparation of the PSEL construction between the Governor of Central Java, the Regent of Kendal and the Mayor of Semarang in an event held in Semarang, Central Java, Saturday, March 28.
PSEL Semarang Raya itself carries the concept of regional agglomeration, covering the city of Semarang and Kendal Regency, as a waste management center based on environmentally friendly technology.
The project is managed collaboratively between the central government, local government, and the private sector to ensure optimal and sustainable operations.
The Semarang Raya area, which includes the city of Semarang and Kendal Regency, produces 1,627 tons of waste per day.
PSEL Semarang Raya is planned to process around 1,100 tons per day. With that, almost all waste in the City of Semarang can be optimally managed, while increasing the achievement of waste management in Kendal Regency.
On this occasion, Central Java Governor Ahmad Luthfi expressed his commitment to the development of PSEL as part of the government's waste management efforts.
"In 2029, we target zero waste. We are committed to reducing waste in Central Java so that it can be managed properly and truly achieve zero waste," he explained.
Meanwhile, the Mayor of Semarang, Agustina Wilujeng Pramestuti and the Regent of Kenda Dyah Kartika Permanasari also expressed their readiness to support the development of PSEL.
The two will ensure the provision of coordinated waste management and carry out massive waste sorting socialization to the public during the waiting period for the construction of the PSEL.
