YOGYAKARTA - Minister of Culture (Menbud) Fadli Zon is preparing Dalem Jayadipuran in Yogyakarta to be developed into the Mataram Museum as well as a cultural space and an educational space for the public.

When reviewing the cultural heritage building on Saturday, March 28, Fadli emphasized that Dalem Jayadipuran was not an ordinary building. The building, which was built in 1847, contains important traces in Indonesian history, ranging from Jong Java activities to the First Women's Congress.

"This building is an important cultural heritage that is a witness to various historical events. Therefore, we want to make it a museum that can record and display the journey to the public," said Fadli Zon.

Dalem Jayadipuran is now under the management of the Yogyakarta X Regional Cultural Preservation Center. According to the Minister, the historical and architectural value of the building must be reopened to the public through more active and targeted utilization.

In that place, Jong Java activities took place which also helped to increase organizational awareness among young people, before culminating in the 1928 Youth Oath. This building has also been the location of the First Women's Congress, which was later commemorated as Mother's Day on December 22. In addition, Dalem Jayadipuran has long been a space for various scientific and cultural activities.

The government is now preparing the concept of developing Dalem Jayadipuran as a Mataram Museum. This step is directed at filling the large narrative gap about the Mataram civilization in the national museum ecosystem.

"We are developing the idea that this place can become the Mataram Museum, as well as a public space, a cultural space, and an educational space that can be accessed by the wider community," said Menbud Fadli.

During the visit, Menbud was accompanied by the Special Staff of the Minister for Protocol and Household Rachmanda Primayuda, Director General of Cultural and Traditional Protection Restu Gunawan, Director of History and Museums Agus Mulyana, and Head of the Regional Cultural Preservation Center X Manggar Sari Ayuati.

Fadli said that the development of Dalem Jayadipuran would be carried out in stages, including through strengthening the curation of collections and the preparation of historical narratives.
