Update On COVID-19 As Of May 9: The Number Of Positive Patients Increases When Society Is Not Disciplined

JAKARTA - The number of positive patient cases is still fluctuating. If in the last few days there has been a downward trend, now the number of positive patient cases has recorded an increase again.

Based on the latest data, Saturday, May 9, the Task Force for the Acceleration of Handling COVID-19 noted an increase in positive cases to 13,645, with an additional 533 patients. On the other hand, the number of confirmed cases recovered from COVID-19 per day is 2,607 after adding 113 people.

"The number of cases of patients who died due to COVID-19 increased to 959 people," said spokesperson for COVID-19 Handling Achmad Yurianto, in a conference broadcast on BNPB's YouTube account.

For the number of people under surveillance (ODP), currently the number has increased by 2,367 with a total of 246,847 people. Meanwhile, the number of patients under surveillance (PDP) waiting for the results of the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test increased by 603.

Yuri explained that the additional data was also a measure of how much society could comply with government regulations and recommended health protocols as a step to break the chain of transmission of COVID-19.

"This picture becomes a point of how disciplined we are to comply with the health protocol rules. This is the measure because this is how we control COVID-19," said Yuri.

Whereas previously, the government just launched the Sloping Curve Movement. A massive movement that is expected to be able to suppress or make the number of COVID-19 transmission more sloping than before.

Chairperson of the Expert Team for the Task Force for the Acceleration of Handling COVID-19 Prof. drh Wiku Adisasmito said the only way to predict the COVID-19 curve is to ensure that everyone does not transmit the virus to others.

"The trick is to change behavior. Keep your distance, wash your hands with soap and running water, use a mask, and keep immunity high," said Wiku previously.

He believed that if the movement was carried out by the Indonesian people together, the virus would not be able or could transmit to humans again. "We understand that the situation is becoming increasingly difficult, but this movement is what we must do to increase the success rate together," he added.
