JAKARTA - French energy giant TotalEnergies has evacuated around 1,300 employees from across the Middle East following the escalating Israeli-US attack on Iran.
TotalEnergies CEO Patrick Pouyanne told Al Jazeera on Thursday that their employees were withdrawn from the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Iraq.
He added that only a small number of local employees and contractors remained on-site to maintain essential operations.
Energy facilities became a target of the war after Israel attacked an Iranian oil refinery in Tehran resulting in a massive fire on Saturday, March 7.
Since then, US-Israeli affiliated energy facilities in the Gulf country have been affected.
Speaking to the WSJ report, Wednesday, March 18, US President Donald Trump then asked Israel to no longer target Iranian energy facilities.
