Wonosobo Regency Government in Central Java held an air balloon festival in 23 locations spread across nine sub-districts in the regency.

"This number has increased significantly compared to previous years which only had a dozen locations," said Head of the Wonosobo Regency Tourism and Culture Office, Fahmi Hidayat, as reported by ANTARA, Monday, March 23.

He said the activity was part of the 2026 Homecoming Festival.

According to him, the increase in the number of locations is proof of the collaboration between the local government, the balloon community, and the community in preserving traditions while developing the tourism sector.

"All the balloons that were flown were tied according to the rules of the aviation authority to maintain safety. It is important that the tradition continues without disturbing national flight activities," he emphasized.

"This is an example of how the community can synergize with the government. In addition to preserving culture, this activity is also a Wonosobo's flagship tourist attraction," he said.

The hot air balloon festival lasts for a week, from March 22 to 29, 2026, with the peak event held in Wonosobo Square. Some locations even hold balloon flights for more than one day to give tourists the opportunity to visit.

The Wonosobo Regency Government hopes that through this event, the number of tourist visits will continue to increase. In 2026, according to Fahmi, the regency government targets more than three million tourists to come to Wonosobo, as various tourism events are held.

According to him, through this activity, tourists are not only concentrated in the Dieng Area. The festival is also expected to encourage tourists to explore other destinations in Wonosobo, including villages with equally attractive natural panoramas.
