JAKARTA - The National Police said the Lebaran homecoming flow began to show a gradual increase towards Jakarta.

Spokesperson for the 2026 Ketupat Operation Public Relations Task Force, Kombes Marupa Sagala, predicts that the peak of the return flow will occur in two stages, namely on March 24, 2026 and March 28-29, 2026.

"The reverse flow has begun to be seen with a gradual increase in vehicle volume. We urge the public to plan their trip well and take advantage of the existing policies so that the trip can be carried out gradually," said Kombes Marupa as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, March 23.

Based on traffic volume data on Sunday (22/3) at 06.00 WIB to 22.00 WIB, vehicles entering Jakarta were recorded at 122,994 or down 3.66 percent compared to normal conditions, but increased 3.73 percent compared to the previous year's Lebaran period.

Meanwhile, the number of vehicles leaving Jakarta through the four main toll gates reached 168,159 or increased by 65.79 percent compared to the normal volume and increased by 2.06 percent compared to Lebaran 2025.

In supporting the smooth flow of homecoming and return, the National Police optimizes monitoring through CCTV, real-time traffic counting, and cross-sector coordination with the Ministry of Transportation, Jasa Marga, and Jasa Raharja.

Marupa emphasized that he would continue to optimize security and services to ensure that the implementation of the homecoming and return flow runs safely, orderly, and smoothly.

He said that the current traffic flow was observed to begin to decline and had returned to normal in both directions, in line with the termination of the one-way traffic engineering system or one way based on the evaluation of conditions in the field in real time.

As a precautionary measure, the National Police together with relevant stakeholders will implement situational traffic engineering, including contraflow and one way both locally and nationally.

"The plan for the implementation of the national one-way is scheduled to start on March 24, 2026 from KM 414 to KM 70," he said.

In addition, he said the public can also use alternative routes through the Jakarta-Cikampek II South Toll Road to avoid congestion on the main road, which in certain segments can be used for free during Operation Ketupat 2026.
