President Prabowo Emphasizes Commitment to Repair the Police and TNI, There is No Tolerance for Violations

JAKARTA - President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto reiterated his commitment to improving law enforcement agencies, including the National Police and the TNI, as part of efforts to strengthen the foundations of the state and increase public confidence.

Prabowo said reform was not limited to one institution, but included all state institutions that played a role in law enforcement.

"What I want to do is transform the nation, I want to improve the condition of the nation, including law enforcement tools," he said in an interview quoted from his written statement received in Jakarta, Antara, Sunday, March 22.

According to him, the existence of a professional and ethical law enforcement agency is the main requirement for a strong state. "Law, the rule of law, is an important part of a strong and successful state," he said.

He also emphasized that there was no tolerance for violations of the law, including those committed by state officials. Prabowo reminded that the actions of individuals could damage trust in the institution as a whole.

"Maybe some people have power, he can do whatever he wants, but hundreds of thousands of other police are affected by his bad name," he said.

In the effort to improve, Prabowo stated that he would give every institution the opportunity to make improvements internally. However, if there is no change, the government will take firm action.

"First I want to give the opportunity for each institution to clean itself. If you can improve yourself, I will give you the opportunity," he said.

He also highlighted the importance of supervision in the field, including illegal practices that should be prevented by the authorities, such as illegal mining activities.

"How can there be illegal mines, Babinsa doesn't know, Danramil doesn't know, Kodim doesn't know, Dandim doesn't know?" he said.

Prabowo emphasized that the action against the police who violated the law was not new and had been done before. "You can see how many generals, three stars, two stars we have fired and we have handed over to the prosecutor's office," he said.
