JAKARTA - A total of 1,212 inmates of the West Lombok Class II A Penitentiary, West Nusa Tenggara, received special remission on the momentum of the Saka 1948 New Year's Nyepi and Idulfitri 1447 Hijriah celebrations.
"Of these, six of them were immediately free (RK II) and could celebrate Eid with their families at home," said the Head of the Regional Office of the Directorate General of Corrections NTB Agung Krisna in West Lombok, Saturday.
The special remission for inmates was symbolically handed over by Agung Krisna after the Id prayer at the West Lombok Class II A Prison, Kuripan District, West Lombok Regency.
Of the 1,212 recipients of remission, 63 of them are Hindus. After deducting the special remission recipients of category two or immediately free, the rest are Muslim inmates.
The remission, said Agung, is a form of appreciation from the state to inmates who have shown positive changes during their rehabilitation period.
"This Eid al-Fitr momentum is expected to be an impetus for the residents to continue to improve themselves, improve personal quality, and prepare themselves to return to society," he said.
He also emphasized that remission is not the end of the coaching process, but rather part of the journey to become a better and more responsible person.
"The process of self-improvement does not stop here. Make this remission as motivation to continue to maintain good behavior and not repeat past mistakes," he said.
Meanwhile, the Head of West Lombok Prison, M. Fadli, said that the granting of remission was the right of inmates as regulated in Law Number 22 of 2022 concerning Corrections, as long as they meet the administrative and substantive requirements.
"The remission given today is a form of appreciation for the commitment of the inmates to follow the training program sincerely," he said.
He explained that the amount of remission in category one or the reduction of the term of imprisonment given was quite varied, ranging from 15 days, one month, one month and 15 days, to two months.
Fadli also emphasized that the entire process of granting remission was carried out transparently and accountable through the Prison Management Assessment System (SPPN), with the supervision of the head of the prison and risk assessment by the assessor.
"Remission is given objectively to inmates who behave well and actively participate in training. This is proof that every inmate has the opportunity to change," said Fadli.
He also hopes that this Eid al-Fitr momentum will be a turning point for all the residents to continue to improve themselves, make the training period a means of introspection, and prepare themselves to become better and more responsible individuals when they return to society.
