JAKARTA - Iran's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Amir Saeid Iravani, said Iran would demand compensation from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for damages caused by the United States (US) attack launched from the country's territory.

As reported by ANTARA from Sputnik, the Iranian envoy in his letter to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, as observed by the NourNews news agency, stated that the UAE's actions at the international level deserved legal action.

The move includes compensation claims, including payment for all types of losses suffered by Iran.

Iran has previously warned it would target energy infrastructure in Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates in retaliation for Israeli and US attacks on its energy assets.

The UAE said Iran attacked the Habshan gas processing facility and the Bab oil field on Wednesday (18/3).

"This attack is a dangerous escalation and a violation of international law. The UAE has the full right to take all necessary measures to protect its sovereignty and national security, as well as to safeguard its national interests," the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs wrote on the X platform.

The ministry assessed the attack on vital infrastructure and oil facilities as "a direct threat to regional security and stability, as well as to global energy security."

On February 28, the US and Israel launched an attack on a number of targets in Iran, including in Tehran, which caused damage and civilian casualties.

Iran responded by attacking Israeli territory as well as US military facilities in the Middle East as a form of self-defense.
