JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan said that Jakarta should have 500 kilometers of bicycle lanes. He said this in commemoration of World Bicycle Day.
"Ideally, in Jakarta there will be 500 kilometers of bicycle lanes. That's the ideal that we want to achieve in that direction," said Anies at the Transportation Ministry Office, Friday, June 4.
Therefore, the DKI Provincial Government has a plan to develop bicycle lanes of up to 500 kilometers by 2030, spread over various roads.
Anies admitted that he would continue to work on the 101-kilometer bicycle path until the end of 2021. He said the bicycle lane was made so that residents could cycle safely.
The current total bicycle path is 63 kilometers. Anies hopes that the capital city will have a bicycle lane with a total length of 170 kilometers by the end of this year.
"Currently we are building the infrastructure. We want people to cycle, so it is the responsibility of the government to prepare the infrastructure," said Anies.
In addition, Anies asked building managers in DKI to have an obligation to provide bicycle parking spaces of at least 10 percent of the available parking spaces specifically for bicycles.
"We also recommend that a place to rinse be prepared. Thus, making it easier for workers who choose to go to work using the bicycle, there is comfort because when they arrive there are parking facilities and other supporting facilities," he said.
