JAKARTA - The government is currently drafting energy saving strategies in the public sector, which include education, health, and public services, as a follow-up to President Prabowo Subianto's directions.
Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (Menko PMK) Pratikno said that energy efficiency policies need to be formulated in a responsive and data-based manner by considering the experience of regulating mobility during the COVID-19 pandemic.
"Efficiency measures must be designed in a measured and data-based manner based on energy consumption and mobility levels in each sector, so that they do not cause excessive negative impacts on the community," said Coordinating Minister Pratikno as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, March 17.
This step was discussed in the Technical Coordination Meeting (Rakornis) on Fuel Saving Policies held online. Coordinating Minister Pratikno emphasized that the government ensured that energy saving policies did not interfere with the learning process or other public services.
The government has agreed on five main strategies for cross-agency energy savings, namely the implementation of a flexible work scheme for state civil servants (ASN), strengthening the use of digital platforms, limiting official travel mobility.
Then the application of energy-saving strategies in office building operations as well as adjustments to online and offline learning methods according to the characteristics of subjects.
To maintain the quality of education, he said, learning activities that are practical are still directed to take place face to face.
In addition to this, it also noted a number of strategic issues that require further discussion, including adjustments to the distribution of the Free Nutritious Meal Program (MBG) if there is a change in the pattern of student attendance, as well as alternative financing schemes to support internet access for students if online learning is applied.
The cross-sector energy saving policy is planned to take effect in April 2026.
"Coordination across ministries and agencies is the key to ensuring that energy efficiency policies can run effectively, while ensuring that public services continue to run optimally," said Coordinating Minister Pratikno.
As a follow-up to the coordination meeting, a report will be formulated for President Prabowo Subianto containing an overview of energy consumption in the human development and culture sectors as well as recommendations for savings measures by relevant ministries and agencies.
The meeting was also attended by representatives from the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasmen), the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Kemdiktisaintek), the Ministry of Religion (Kemenag), the Ministry of State Apparatus and Bureaucratic Reform (PAN-RB), the Ministry of Health (Kemenkes), and the Ministry of Youth and Sports (Kemenpora).
