Government Committed to Boosting 3 Million Houses and TOD Housing Programs in Urban Areas

JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono emphasized President Prabowo Subianto's commitment to providing decent housing for the community through the three million house development program.

"He is firm in his commitment and from the beginning believes that a healthy family starts with a good home, and a capable community starts with a prosperous home," said AHY during the groundbreaking ceremony for residential construction to support the three million house program on the assets of PT Kereta Api Indonesia in the Manggarai Station area, Jakarta, Monday, March 16.

According to AHY, the inauguration of the national housing development program is an important momentum in realizing the government's vision to provide decent housing for the Indonesian people.

He explained that the three million house construction program was designed to answer the problem of high housing backlog while improving the quality of housing for people who still live in unsuitable houses.

The program is also directed to expand access to decent and affordable housing for the pre-prosperous community and low-income communities in various regions.

"This also includes quality because there are still quite a lot of Indonesian families who live or live in houses that are less or not habitable," he said.

AHY also expressed his appreciation to various parties who support the implementation of the national housing development program, including PT Kereta Api Indonesia which provides land for housing development in urban areas.

According to him, the construction of people's housing is not only aimed at overcoming housing shortages, but can also make a significant contribution to national economic growth.

He explained that the housing development sector has the potential to create new economic opportunities through the opening of various employment opportunities in the construction sector and other supporting industries.

AHY said the development of the housing sector could encourage the growth of around 180 types of industries related to construction, building materials, to the service sector.

However, he admitted that the main challenge in housing development was the availability of land that was ready to be used and had a clear legal status.

Therefore, AHY said his party continued to strengthen cross-ministerial coordination under his coordination, including the Ministry of Agrarian and Spatial Planning/National Land Agency, the Ministry of Housing and Settlements, the Ministry of Public Works, and the Ministry of Transportation of the Republic of Indonesia.

The coordination was carried out to build a more integrated housing and residential area development ecosystem, as well as to support the sustainable development of urban areas.

AHY added that the government also encourages the development of vertical housing based on the Transit Oriented Development concept so that housing development in major cities is more efficient and integrated with the public transportation system.

On the same occasion, the Chairman of the Housing Task Force and Special Envoy of the President of the Republic of Indonesia Hashim Djojohadikusumo said the three million house construction program is part of an effort to realize social justice for all Indonesian people as stated in the fifth principle of Pancasila.

According to Hashim, the national housing program is not only aimed at meeting the housing needs of the community, but also becoming a concrete step by the government in reducing social inequality.

"Now the program that we are witnessing today, we realize today, we are heading for the fifth precept so that our people will really feel the real benefits of the presence of Pancasila as the state ideology," said Hashim.
