DKI Jakarta Traffic Prediction for Jakarta Terminal Homecoming Peak Occurred on March 17-18

JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Transportation Office (Dishub) predicts that the peak of the Lebaran homecoming flow at the inter-city inter-provincial bus terminal (AKAP) will occur on March 17-18, 2026. The DKI Provincial Government has prepared a number of major terminals to anticipate a surge in passengers.

Deputy Head of DKI Jakarta Police, Ujang Hermawan, said that four main terminals were prepared to serve the movement of pilgrims from Jakarta with the peak of the homecoming starting tomorrow.

"It is estimated that on March 17 and 18. Yes, this is indeed the average we anticipate to be in the four main terminals, Pulo Gebang, Kampung Rambutan, and there are also in Kalideres, as well as Tanjung Priok," said Ujang at the Kampung Rambutan Terminal, East Jakarta, Monday, March 16.

In addition to preparing the main terminal, DKI Dishub also anticipates a surge in passengers by preparing backup terminals, namely at the Muara Angke Terminal, Lebak Bulus, and Grogol. This step is taken to maintain the smooth flow of departure during the Lebaran homecoming period.

Meanwhile, when reviewing the Kampung Rambutan Terminal, Ujang still needs improvements to facilities so that it can function as a more integrated transportation node.

"This is indeed a location that is quite possible to arrange departures from this Kampung Rambutan Terminal, like in the Pulo Gebang Integrated Terminal. Because here serves not only returning home or returning to Java, but also to Sumatra," said Ujang.

"I also see that this can still be developed with better arrangements including MSMEs, security posts, other service posts. This is possible in the future from the Regional Asset Agency to develop an integrated terminal area for Kampung Rambutan," he continued.

Meanwhile, passenger movement from the Kampung Rambutan Terminal continues to increase approaching the peak homecoming period. Until H-5 Lebaran, thousands of passengers have been sent from the terminal.

"The last one was 2,700. But if the total is almost 10,000, it has been passed. Because some days it was above 2,000," said Ujang.

On the other hand, DKI's Dishub also prepares transportation services for Jakarta residents who do not travel home. The government estimates that around 4 million residents will remain in the capital during the Lebaran period.

According to Ujang, public transportation services will continue to be operated to support citizen mobility, both for tourism within the city and for visiting relatives.

The DKI Provincial Government has also prepared a policy for free transportation services during Lebaran. This policy applies to a number of modes of transportation managed by the local government.

"Of course, on the 1st and 2nd (Syawal), the Governor has determined free transportation services managed by the DKI Government. Both TransJakarta, MRT, and LRT are free. In terms of terminology, the gathering event before Eid al-Fitr and after Eid al-Fitr," he added.
