BOGOR - The West Java Provincial Government has temporarily suspended the operation of urban transportation (angkot) on the Puncak line, Bogor Regency, for five days during the 2026 Lebaran holiday period to reduce the potential for congestion in the tourist area.

The policy is also accompanied by the provision of compensation of Rp. 1 million to each driver and angkot owner who did not operate during the period of suspension of operations.

West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi symbolically handed over compensation to angkot drivers at the Bogor Police Headquarters, Cibinong, Bogor Regency, Sunday (15/3).

He said the policy was taken to reduce traffic density on the Puncak route, which experiences a surge in vehicles every year during the Lebaran holiday.

"Here, almost 2,000 angkot drivers from around 700 fleets receive compensation so that they do not operate temporarily during the Lebaran holiday, so that congestion in Puncak can be suppressed," said Dedi as quoted by ANTARA.

According to him, this step is part of the local government's efforts to anticipate the congestion that often occurs in the Puncak area when there is an increase in community mobility during the holiday season.

Head of the West Java Provincial Transportation Office Dhani Gumelar explained that the program targeted 2,068 angkot drivers serving routes in the Puncak area.

The suspension of operations was carried out on March 22, 23, 24, 27 and 28 during the 2026 Lebaran holiday period.

"The number of drivers who received compensation was 2,068 people. The termination of operations was carried out on those five days based on the results of surveys and predictions because the activity of the community towards the Peak usually increases," he said.

He added that compensation was given Rp200 thousand per day, so that the total received by each driver for five days reached Rp1 million. The compensation fund has been transferred directly to the recipient's account through Bank BJB.

This program only applies to angkot serving routes to the Puncak area. The government is still considering the needs of people who still use public transportation in other areas.

Head of Traffic Division of Bogor Regency Transportation Office Dadang Kosasih said the angkot that participated in the program came from three main routes in the Puncak area.

The routes include 02C angkot routes Pasir Muncang-Ciawi with 73 vehicles, then 02B routes Sukasari-Cibedug with 175 vehicles, and 02A routes Sukasari-Cisarua with 530 vehicles.

Dadang emphasized that all angkot on the route must comply with the policy of stopping operations on the specified date.

"You have to follow the rules. On the 22nd, 23rd, 24th, 27th and 28th, there is no Angkot operating in the three majors," he said.

Officers from the Transportation Service together with the police will carry out supervision in the field. If an angkot is found to still operate, it will be given sanctions according to the provisions.

"First we make an appeal, but if it is still operating we will take action with a fine with the police," he said.

In addition to the operation of angkot, the local government also prepares personnel and supporting facilities to anticipate the Lebaran homecoming and tourism in the Bogor Regency area.

The Bogor Regency Transportation Office has deployed around 300 personnel, including 100 special officers in the Puncak area, who will work in two shifts to manage traffic and ensure the smooth flow of vehicles during the Lebaran holiday period.
