Muhammadiyah Set Idulfitri 1 Syawal 1447 H Fall on March 20, 2026

YOGYAKARTA - The Central Leadership of Muhammadiyah through the Tarjih and Tajdid Assembly officially determined that Eid al-Fitr 1 Syawal 1447 Hijriah fell on Friday, March 20, 2026.

The decision was based on the results of the XXXII National Conference of Tarjih Muhammadiyah which implemented the Single Global Hijri Calendar (KHGT) system as the basis for determining the beginning of the Hijri month.

The Chairman of the Tarjih and Tajdid Assembly of the PP Muhammadiyah, Hamim Ilyas, explained that the initial determination of Syawal was carried out by referring to global astronomical parameters according to the KHGT concept.

"The initial determination of the month of Syawal 1447 H was made by referring to the Decision of the National Consultative Meeting XXXII Tarjih Muhammadiyah on the Single Global Hijri Calendar (KHGT)," Hamim said in an official statement on Thursday, March 12.

In the KHGT system, all regions of the world are seen as a single celestial body. Thus, the beginning of the Hijri month can be started simultaneously throughout the world if the astronomical criteria have been met.

The new moon is declared to have begun if in one of the regions of the world before 24.00 UTC the moon has met the minimum moon elongation of 8 degrees and the minimum crescent height of 5 degrees at sunset.

Based on astronomical data, the ijtimak occurred on Thursday Kliwon, March 19, 2026 at 01.23.28 UTC. At that time, the KHGT parameters had been met in a number of regions, including in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, with a moon height of more than 6 degrees and an elongation of more than 8 degrees.

"Thus, based on astronomical data that meet the criteria of KHGT, namely the existence of a region in the world that experiences an elongation of 8° and a crescent height of 5° at sunset before 24.00 UTC, it is determined that 1 Syawal 1447 H falls on Friday, March 20, 2026 M," explained Hamim.

Muhammadiyah also emphasized that the implementation of KHGT is a strategic step to unite the Hijri calendar system at the global level.

"The implementation of KHGT is an effort to pay off the debt of the Islamic civilization which has been fourteen centuries old," said Hamim.

Muhammadiyah invites Muslims to welcome the arrival of Eid al-Fitr with joy, forgiveness, and closer ties.

This determination is expected to serve as a guide for Muhammadiyah members and the wider community in welcoming Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah.
