BENGKULU - The Bengkulu Provincial Government has proposed a land grant of around 100 hectares to PT Perkebunan Nusantara I (PTPN I) to support the plan to build an airport owned by the Indonesian Air Force in Seluma Regency.
Deputy Governor of Bengkulu Mian said the proposal emerged after the local government received a letter from the Palembang Air Force Commander in the second week of February.
"We received a letter yesterday in the second week of February from Danlanud Palembang. According to the President's instructions, there are 31 provinces that will have their own TNI AU airfield and Bengkulu is one of them," said Mian in Bengkulu, Antara, Thursday, March 12.
He explained that the plan to build the airfield was projected to be in the Sukaraja area, Seluma Regency.
The location is not far from the Fatmawati Soekarno Airport.
According to Mian, the construction of the military facility requires land with an estimated area of almost 100 hectares, most of which is located in the plantation area owned by PTPN I.
"On behalf of the Governor of Bengkulu, we propose a land grant for PTPN I in Seluma Regency, specifically in Sukaraja, which is not far from the Fatmawati Soekarno Airport, with an estimated land requirement of approximately 100 hectares," he said.
The proposal for land grants was submitted directly to the President Director of PTPN I Tedy Yunirman Danas during a meeting at the company's office in Jakarta on Tuesday.
Mian emphasized that the land grant process would still follow the applicable mechanisms and regulations, starting with the delivery of an official letter of request from the Governor of Bengkulu.
He hopes that support from various parties can accelerate the realization of the development of the TNI AU air base in Bengkulu.
According to him, the existence of this facility is not only important to support the country's defense, but can also strengthen regional connectivity in Bengkulu Province.
Meanwhile, PTPN I President Director Tedy Yunirman Danas expressed his appreciation for the support that has been provided by the Bengkulu Provincial Government together with the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum for the management of the company's plantation area.
"Of course, the support from Forkopimda in Bengkulu is a form of synergy that we appreciate very much in supporting the sustainability and development of the PTPN I plantation area," he said.
