JAKARTA - Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi made a phone call with four foreign ministers from Islamic countries, namely Kuwait, Bahrain, Pakistan and Qatar, to discuss the development of the Middle East.

In a telephone conversation with Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah on Monday (9/3), Wang Yi said China appreciated the consistent call of the Gulf countries for dialogue and negotiations.

"China will continue to strive for peace, and China's special envoy for Middle East affairs has left for the region to mediate and will strengthen communication and exchanges with Kuwait and other countries," Wang Yi said in a written statement on the Chinese Foreign Ministry's website.

The US and Israel, said Wang Yi, launched a military attack on Iran while Iran-US negotiations were still ongoing and without authorization from the UN, thus constituting a blatant violation of international law.

At the same time, the sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity of the Gulf states must also be fully respected, and any attacks on innocent civilians and non-military targets should be condemned.

Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Sheikh Jarrah explained the latest developments in the regional situation, stating that Kuwait was not a party to the war but was still affected by the flames of war.

"The Gulf countries, including Kuwait, remain committed to resolving disputes through dialogue while maintaining their legitimate right to self-defense. Kuwait highly appreciates the position and efforts China has made, and is ready to strengthen communication and coordination with China to jointly promote the restoration of security and stability in the region," Sheikh Jarrah said.

Furthermore, in a conversation with Bahrain Foreign Minister Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani on Monday (9/3), Wang Yi said China was very concerned about the situation in the Gulf region had sharply increased recently, including Bahrain's security.

"As a strategic partner of the Gulf countries and a responsible major country, China has actively promoted peace and stopped the war. The way out of the impasse lies in the return of dialogue and negotiations as soon as possible to strive to restore peace," said Wang Yi.

Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Al Zayani explained that Bahrain has always been committed to peace and will not be the target of illegal attacks.

"Bahrain is ready to cooperate with other Gulf countries to improve communication and coordination with China on bilateral and multilateral platforms, including the United Nations, to achieve regional peace and stability as soon as possible," Al Zayani said.

Then in a conversation with Pakistani Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar on Tuesday (10/3), Wang Yi said China did not approve of attacks on Gulf countries and condemned all attacks on civilian facilities and innocent civilians.

"China appreciates Pakistan's mediation efforts to ease regional tensions and is ready to maintain multilateral and bilateral coordination and cooperation with Pakistan, support Pakistan in continuing to play a constructive role, and jointly strive to restore peace and stability in the region as soon as possible," said Wang Yi.

Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar explained Pakistan's position regarding the situation in Iran and urged all parties to refrain from violence and

the current crisis through peaceful negotiations.

The two foreign ministers also exchanged views on the border conflict between Pakistan and Afghanistan.

"The top priority is to prevent the escalation of the conflict and return to the negotiating table as soon as possible and China firmly supports Pakistan in its counter-terrorism efforts and hopes that Pakistan will continue to make maximum efforts to ensure the safety of Chinese personnel, projects, and institutions in Pakistan," said Wang Yi.

Finally, in a conversation with the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Qatar Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani on Tuesday (10/3), Wang Yi stated that as a permanent member of the UN Security Council, China always upholds the principle and defends justice in international affairs.

"The continuation of the war will only bring losses, and will only cause greater losses for all parties involved. China calls for an immediate ceasefire and cessation of hostilities, a political settlement of this issue, and supports the Gulf countries in taking control of the future of this region," said Wang Yi.

Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Al Thani stressed that Qatar must take the necessary defensive measures, while increasing diplomatic efforts to contain the spread and escalation of the crisis.

Previously, the first day of the US and Israeli military action on February 28, 2026 had killed the Supreme Leader of Iran Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and bombed a girls' school in southern Iran.

Iran estimates the number of deaths from the attacks to date to be more than 1,300.
