KUPANG - The East Nusa Tenggara Police through the Special Criminal Investigation Directorate are monitoring the sale of LPG gas cylinders in Kupang City following the scarcity that has occurred in recent times.

Director of Special Criminal Investigation of the East Nusa Tenggara Police, Kombes Hans Rachmatulloh Irawan, said his party had coordinated with a number of LPG gas distributors to ensure that distribution ran smoothly and to prevent individuals from raising prices beyond the provisions.

"We coordinate and give advice to distributors to ensure the distribution of LPG gas runs smoothly and sales at outlets remain in accordance with the prices that have been set," said Hans in Kupang, Antara, Tuesday, March 10.

The coordination was carried out by personnel from Sub-Directorate 4 of the Criminal Investigation Unit by visiting the office of PT Pelita Timor Gas, which is one of the distributors of LPG in Kupang City. During the meeting, the police met directly with the company's director, Alain.

In his explanation to the police, Alain said that the scarcity of LPG cylinders in Kupang City was due to several factors, one of which was the reduced schedule for the arrival of container-carrying ships from Surabaya.

Usually, container carriers come twice a week, but now only once a week. This condition is triggered by bad weather that has hit the waters of East Nusa Tenggara in recent weeks.

In addition, the distribution process was also hampered by damage to the container crane at the Surabaya port and the unpredictable weather conditions which affected the sailing schedule of the LPG carrier to NTT.

However, the distributor ensured that the distribution of LPG gas cylinders to a number of outlets in Kupang City continued.

On the same day, a total of four LPG containers were distributed to various outlets. The first and second containers each contained 616 12-kilogram LPG cylinders.

The third container contains 323 5.5 kilogram LPG cylinders, 308 12 kilogram LPG cylinders, and 48 50 kilogram LPG cylinders.

Meanwhile, the fourth container contains 5.5 kilogram LPG cylinders, 392 12 kilogram LPG cylinders, and 60 50 kilogram LPG cylinders.

Meanwhile, the price of 12 kilogram LPG at the outlet level currently ranges from IDR 260,000 to IDR 280,000 per cylinder. Distributors have also reminded retailers not to sell above that price.

The distributor also ensured that two additional containers from Surabaya were scheduled to arrive in the next two days so that it was hoped that it could help stabilize the supply of LPG in Kupang City.

Hans emphasized that his party would continue to monitor the distribution and price of LPG on the ground to prevent hoarding and price manipulation.

"We will check with gas cylinder sellers and continue to coordinate with distributors to ensure that supplies are available and prices do not exceed the provisions," he said.

In addition, the police also appealed to the public not to make excessive purchases so that the distribution of LPG gas can run evenly and the public's needs are still met.
