Indonesia asks the US and Israel to stop attacking Iran

JAKARTA - The Indonesian government through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has asked the United States, Israel and Iran to stop the attacks they launched, refrain from doing so and de-escalate tensions by returning to the negotiating table.

In his post on the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs' social media, "After receiving reports from various Indonesian Representatives in the Middle East region regarding the increasingly worrying security situation in the region, the Indonesian Government once again expressed its serious concern over the increasing and widespread tensions and their impact in the Middle East."

"The Indonesian government calls on the United States and Israel to stop attacks on Iran, and calls on Iran to stop attacks targeting neighboring countries in the region, including the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman, Bahrain, Kuwait and Jordan," the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs wrote on social media X, as quoted Monday (9/3).

It is known that regional escalation in the Middle East has increased since Israel and the US launched a joint attack on Iran on February 28, which killed more than 1,200 people, including Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, and injured more than 10,000 others, quoted from Anadolu.

Tehran retaliated with missile and drone attacks targeting Israel, Iraq, Jordan, and Gulf states that host US military assets.

Furthermore, the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs wrote, "Indonesia reaffirms the obligation of all parties to uphold the principles of international law, especially regarding the prohibition of the use of force against the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country."

"Indonesia encourages all parties to exercise maximum restraint, de-escalate tensions, and return to the negotiating table through dialogue and diplomacy," the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs wrote.

"The Indonesian government continues to closely monitor the impact of the conflict on Indonesian citizens in the region and has prepared contingency measures if conditions require repatriation from various countries," he added.
