Tehran Hopes Russia Will Use Global Influence to Support Legal Rights

JAKARTA - Iran hopes Russia will use its influence at the international level to support Iran's legitimate rights amid attacks by the United States (US) and Israel.

This was conveyed by Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian in a telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

"Iran hopes that Russia will use its potential in the international arena to support the legitimate rights of the Iranian people amid the ongoing attacks by the United States and Israel," Pezeshkian was quoted as saying by Iran's presidential press service as reported by Sputnik, Saturday, March 7.

The Iranian president also denied claims that Tehran attacked Azerbaijan.

Meanwhile, the Permanent Representative of Iran to the United Nations (UN), Amir Saeid Iravani, said Iran would continue to defend itself until the aggression and attacks it called barbaric acts by the United States and Israel were stopped.

"We continue to exercise our inherent right to self-defense under Article 51 of the Charter of the United Nations until this aggression and barbaric attack stops. Our response is legitimate, necessary, and proportionate," Iravani told reporters at the UN headquarters.

He stated that Iran only targeted military targets in response to the aggression aimed at his country.

On Saturday (28/2), the United States and Israel launched an attack on a number of targets in Iran, including in Tehran, which caused damage and casualties among civilians. The attack resulted in the death of the Supreme Leader of Iran Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Iran then retaliated by launching attacks on Israeli territory and US military bases in various parts of the Middle East, as a defensive measure.
