Member of Commission III of the House of Representatives, Abdullah, asked the police to investigate the case of the murder of former employee of the Jakarta International Container Terminal (JICT), Ermanto Usman (65), who was found dead in the Pondok Gede area, Bekasi City, on Monday, March 2.
According to Abdullah, the murder case against Ermanto must be handled seriously and transparently because the victim was known as an activist who was vocal in uncovering alleged corruption practices and various irregularities in the port environment.
"This incident must be thoroughly investigated. The police need to ensure whether this case is purely a robbery accompanied by persecution or there is an element of premeditated murder of the victim who has always been known to be critical and vocal," Abdullah told reporters, Friday, March 6.
Abdullah assessed that the police must move quickly and professionally in uncovering the case so as not to create speculation among the public. He also asked investigators to work objectively by exploring all possible motives behind the murder.
"The police must be able to reveal who the perpetrators and the mastermind behind this murder are. Law enforcement must be carried out firmly and transparently," he said.
Abdullah emphasized that if there were indeed elements of premeditated murder, then law enforcement officers must take action against the perpetrators without discrimination.
"Whoever is involved in this murder must be prosecuted. There must be no protection for the perpetrators. Law enforcement must apply equally to all," he said.
Abdullah also expressed his condolences for the death of Ermanto Usman and hoped that the victim's family would be given fortitude. He emphasized that uncovering the case was important to provide a sense of justice for the victim's family while maintaining public confidence in law enforcement.
As reported, Ermanto and his wife, Pasmilawati (60), were allegedly victims of a robbery accompanied by persecution that led to death on Monday, March 2.
Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of Bekasi City Metro Police, Kompol Andi Muhammad Iqbal, said the temporary suspicion of the incident that befell Ermanto and Pasmilawati led to a robbery, although the motive was still under investigation.
