MIMIKA - The Koops TNI Papua Patrol Team thwarted an attempt by an armed group to attack the Tembagapura area, Mimika Regency, Monday (2/3/2026). In the incident, one member of the armed group was killed, six people were arrested, and a victim housewife was successfully evacuated.

The action began when armed groups fired around a residential area. A housewife was shot in the hand and leg. After receiving reports from residents, patrol personnel moved to the location to secure the situation and evacuate the victim to a health facility.

Head of Information Koops TNI Papua, Lt. Col. Inf Wirya Arthadiguna, said the situation had heated up when the police carried out security and evacuation. "Armed groups fired at personnel who were carrying out security and evacuation. The patrol team returned fire in a measured manner, so that one perpetrator was killed and six others were successfully secured," he said in a written statement received on Wednesday, March 4.

From the location, the patrol team seized evidence, including one FN pistol, three 9 mm caliber bullets, one air rifle, arrows and bows, one power bank unit, and a number of other items that are still being data.

Koops TNI Papua stated that security in the area would be strengthened to ensure the safety of residents and maintain security stability in Central Papua.
