Mount Lewotobi NTT Eruption This Morning

JAKARTA - Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Flores Regency, East Nusa Tenggara erupted this morning and the public was asked not to carry out activities within a radius of 4 kilometers from the center of the eruption.

Head of the Geological Agency, Lana Saria, explained that the eruption occurred at 08.39 Wita with an ash column height observed at around 800 meters above the peak or approximately 2,384 meters above sea level.

As reported by ANTARA, Thursday, March 4, the Geological Agency confirmed the column of gray-colored ash with moderate intensity and inclined to the north and northeast.

Instrumentally, the activity was recorded on the seismogram with a maximum amplitude of 11 mm and a duration of about 47 seconds.

However, the Geological Agency stated that at present Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki is still at Level II Status (Warning) which recommends that people around the mountain and visitors or tourists do not carry out activities within a radius of 4 kilometers from the center of the eruption.

The public is also urged to remain calm and follow the instructions of the local government and not easily believe in information that is unclear about its source. The local government is asked to actively convey official developments to residents.

In addition, residents are asked to be aware of the potential for flash flood on rivers upstream in mountain peaks if heavy rains occur, especially in the Dulipali, Padang Pasir, Nobo, Nurabelen, Klatanlo, Hokeng Jaya, Boru, and Nawakote areas.

For people affected by ash rain, the Geological Agency urges the use of masks or nose and mouth covers to avoid respiratory disorders due to volcanic ash, while the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) continues to coordinate with the East Nusa Tenggara BPBD and local stakeholders in monitoring the activity of the mountain.
