Celebrate Cap Go Meh with Sutiyoso to Anies, Pramono wants to build a Peranakan Museum

JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung attended the Cap Go Meh celebration and breaking the fast together at Pancoran Chinatown Point, Glodok area, West Jakarta. This activity is the culmination of the 2577 Kongzili Chinese New Year series.

A number of former DKI Jakarta Governors were present, including Sutiyoso, Fauzi Bowo, Anies Baswedan, Teguh Setyabudi, and Djarot Saiful Hidayat. The cross-leadership gathering was called by Pramono as a symbol of the continuity of Jakarta's development.

"The presence of Bang Foke, Mr. Sutiyoso, Mr. Anies, Mr. Djarot, and others is very meaningful. This indicates that the continuity of development in Jakarta is going well," said Pramono.

According to him, the celebration of Cap Go Meh which coincides with Ramadan shows the face of Jakarta as a city with diversity that coexists. Chinese culture which has long been acculturated with Betawi culture is considered to grow and be accepted as part of the identity of the capital.

On that occasion, Pramono also discussed the construction of a Peranakan Museum on Jalan Keadilan, which will be integrated with the development of the Glodok-Pancoran area and the MRT phase 2 project. The museum is expected to strengthen the area as a cultural tourism destination.

"I want to convey that Chinese citizens have made an extraordinary contribution to Jakarta. As a form of appreciation, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government will build a Peranakan Museum on Jalan Keadilan. Hopefully this will be a symbol for Jakarta," he said.

The celebration of Cap Go Meh also closed the series of Jakarta Chinese New Year Festival 2026 which took place since February 13. Since the morning, various cultural attractions have been displayed, ranging from dendang scarf dance, barongsai and liong, tanjidor, egrang, ondel-ondel, to UMKM bazaar.

In addition, the MURI record for the first LED drone flight in Indonesia was handed over to the Governor of DKI Jakarta. The committee also announced the winners of the 2026 Chinese New Year Decoration Competition from the categories of ministries/institutions, hotels, office buildings, to shopping centers.

Cap Go Meh which falls on the 15th day after Chinese New Year is synonymous with lanterns and cultural art performances. For the Chinese community, this celebration is a symbol of gratitude and new hope. In Jakarta, this momentum is also a cultural meeting space that emphasizes diversity as part of city life.
