Greek Cypriot authorities announced the postponement of an EU meeting scheduled for Monday and Tuesday after an Iranian drone crashed at a Royal Air Force (RAF) base in the country.

The meeting of EU ministers for European affairs was held in the capital Nicosia as part of the current Greek Cypriot presidency of the rotating presidency of the Council of the European Union.

Until now, no new schedule for the meeting has been announced.

As reported by ANTARA from Anadolu, Monday, March 2, the leader of Greek Cyprus Nikos Christodoulides, Sunday (1/3) stated that the Iranian drone fell at the British Royal Air Force base located in Cyprus.

The incident came after a statement by British Prime Minister Keir Starmer confirming that Britain had agreed to the United States' request to use a British military base in the attack, which was described as a "defensive" move.

The development comes amid rising regional tensions after the United States and Israel launched a massive attack on Iran on Saturday (28/2) morning, killing a number of senior Iranian officials, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Tehran then responded by launching a series of drone and missile attacks targeting Israel, US assets, and a number of countries in the Gulf region, as a measure of self-defense.
