JAKARTA - North Korea will seek to develop and deploy new secret weapons over the next five years, the country's leader, Kim Jong Un, said.

"The Central Military Commission of the Party has set the main goal of providing our army with new special secret and strategic weapons, carefully reviewing the new defense plans made in various fields, and responsibly approving long-term programs," Kim Jong Un said during the 9th Congress of the Korean Workers' Party held on 19-25 February 2026, quoted from TASS (27/2).

Further, Leader Kim explained, work will begin on an intercontinental ballistic missile system for ground and submarine launches, an AI-powered unmanned attack system, special weapons to attack enemy satellites in the event of war, an electronic warfare system, and advanced reconnaissance satellites.

It is planned to deploy additional strategic weapons every year to deter enemies. These systems, in particular, 600 mm and 240 mm dual rocket launchers and tactical operational missile systems, will increase the density and duration of concentrated attacks.

"In the next five years, with the new national defense development plan fulfilled, our national defense capabilities will increase rapidly to reach a level that our enemies cannot achieve," said Leader Kim Jong Un.

Kim also noted that the military industry and the defense research sector would continue to mass-produce advanced weapons for the development of technology and the modernization of the armed forces, in line with international defense science trends.
