Malaysian Communications Minister Responds to Foreign Media Involved in Alleged Overthrow of PM Anwar Ibrahim

JAKARTA - The Malaysian Communications Minister, Fahmi Fadzil, asked law enforcement officials to thoroughly investigate the alleged conspiracy to overthrow the government of Prime Minister (PM) Anwar Ibrahim.

Fadzil considers the alleged overthrow of the government, which involves international media, to be a serious matter.

"It's a very serious problem," he said on Friday 27 February, quoted by AFP.

He completely handed over the investigation of this case to the Malaysian Police by encouraging a thorough investigation and disclosure of the parties involved in this alleged conspiracy.

"Hand it over to the police to conduct a full investigation," he added.

The Attorney General of Malaysia, who also spoke out, urged the Malaysian Police in this case to conduct a comprehensive and professional investigation.

Previously reported, the Malaysian Police Chief Inspector General of Police Mohd Khalid Ismail said his party was investigating the alleged conspiracy to overthrow the government of PM Anwar Ibrahim.

Ismail said the alleged conspiracy to overthrow the Malaysian Government involved influential local figures and one international media institution.

However, Ismail in his statement did not mention the name of the person in question or the media institution.
