JAKARTA - The Minister of Social Affairs (Mensos) Saifullah Yusuf said that at this time the plan to implement the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) Program for the elderly is still in the concept maturation stage.

"Yes, it just matures the concept, yes," said the man who is familiarly called Gus Ipul, quoted by ANTARA, Friday, February 27.

This was conveyed by Gus Ipul in response to a reporter's question regarding the development of MBG's plan for the elderly after he met with the Head of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) Dadan Hindayana on Wednesday (25/2).

The Minister of Social Affairs conveyed several things that were perfected by the government related to the MBG for the elderly, including regarding the Nutrition Service Fulfillment Unit (SPPG) which will prepare food and be distributed through officers from the Ministry of Social Affairs and community groups (pokmas) and caregivers.

"It is planned like that, but we still have to mature it first so that later the kitchen will be more and can reach more elderly people," he said.

He also said that his party hopes that the provision of MBG can reach 300 to 500 thousand beneficiaries.

"Yesterday we served about 100 thousand elderly and about 36 thousand disabled people. In the future, yes, our hope is that this can be between 300 to 500 thousand beneficiaries. So, we hope that the beneficiaries will be greater. But all of this is still in planning," he said.

Previously, Gus Ipul had stated that the determination of the beneficiaries of the MBG for the elderly and disabled would be carried out through a data-based assessment process by the Ministry of Social Affairs and local governments. The data was then ratified by the regional head before being submitted to BGN as the basis for services at the SPPG.

According to him, the main target of this program is the elderly over the age of 75 who live alone and the disabled who have limited access to daily nutrition.
