JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung officially banned the construction of a new padel court in residential areas. The decision was taken following complaints from residents regarding noise, indiscriminate parking, and alleged violations of the licensing of a number of padel courts operating in residential areas.
"For the padel court, it has been decided, new permits for the construction or padel court are not allowed in residential areas. Everything must be in the commercial zone for the new ones," said Pramono at the DKI Jakarta City Hall, Tuesday, February 24.
Pramono also ensured that the padel field which stands on land assets owned by the DKI Provincial Government and is used by developers, especially in the green open space (RTH) area, should not continue its operations.
"For the padel field that is in the assets owned by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government, in RTH, we do not allow it to continue. So, all assets for green open space, are still being built for green open space," he said.
Not only stopping the construction permit in housing and RTH, the DKI Provincial Government will also take firm action on the padel field that has not obtained a building permit (PBG).
Pramono said that buildings that do not have PBG will be subject to suspension of activities, demolition, and revocation of business permits. Currently, data collection is still being carried out by the Department of Construction, Spatial Planning, and Land (Citata).
Meanwhile, for the construction of a new padel court in the commercial zone, the Provincial Government has set additional requirements in the form of an initial technical approval from the Youth and Sports Office (Dispora).
This policy is intended to make the development of sports facilities more controlled and not trigger conflicts with residents again.
"So that this becomes a reference so that not all people who want to build a padel court can build a padel court in Jakarta," said Pramono.
Meanwhile, for padel courts that have already received PBG but are in residential areas, the DKI Provincial Government cannot immediately close them. However, its operation will be limited to a maximum of 20.00 WIB.
"The padel field that already has a PBG but is in a residential area, then I decided and asked the Mayor, related parties, the Head of Sub-district, and so on, to negotiate with the residents and give a maximum time limit that can be used by the manager of the padel field. it must not be more than 08.00 pm," explained Pramono.
He emphasized that the provision applies to all padel courts in residential areas, even though they have a complete permit.
In addition to limiting operating hours, Pramono admitted that noise was also a problem. Many residents complained about the sound of the ball bouncing and the players' screams that could be heard inside the house.
"If the padel court causes noise because the ball bounces, the screams that then disturb the community, then the padel court - padel court like that in the housing must make it soundproof. The reflection of the ball must not disturb the existing community," said Pramono.
Another problem that must be disciplined is the parking of visitors' vehicles which often crowd the neighborhood roads. According to Pramono, the lack of parking space makes vehicles park on the residential road.
"This parking, I'm sorry, this padel player is on average a person who has the ability to drive his own car. And they park it often in residential areas because there is no parking location, so the parking is random. It is very disturbing for residents. So those who are like that will also be disciplined," he said.
