Government prepares transition to deactivate PBI JKN for 2-3 months

JAKARTA - The Minister of Social Affairs (Mensos) Saifullah Yusuf stated that the government is preparing a transition period mechanism for two to three months before the deactivation of the National Health Insurance Premium Assistance (PBI-JKN) membership is effective, to ensure that health services continue to run.

In a limited meeting with the Minister of Health, the Coordinating Minister for Human Empowerment (Menko PM) and the Head of BPJS Kesehatan, the Minister of Social Affairs Saifullah Yusuf said that the mechanism would be included in a circular letter or joint decision as a guideline for health facilities.

The policy was drafted to address the concerns of health facilities related to the financing of participants whose data are still in the process of being updated.

In this case, the government wants to ensure that no community is rejected when they need services at hospitals, health centers, and clinics during the transition period.

Through this scheme, the data update process can run simultaneously with the sustainability of health services, so that people's rights to access health are still protected.

The Ministry of Social Affairs (Kemensos) previously reported that there were more than 11 million PBI-JKN participants currently whose eligibility was being re-verified by officers from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), social assistants, and local governments in the next two months.

The results of the verification will be the basis for determining whether participants will continue to receive membership assistance or be transferred to independent participants.

The update of membership data is part of the transformation towards the National Socio-Economic Single Data (DTSEN) managed by BPS, as stated in Presidential Instruction Number 4/2025.

The Ministry of Social Affairs ensures that the PBI budget is not reduced or diverted, while the main principle of the policy remains to ensure the sustainability of health services for eligible people, from a total national data of 96.8 million people who are beneficiaries of the BPJS PBI-JKN segment,
