Member of Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Aboe Bakar Al Habsyi, asked law enforcement officers (APH) to hunt down the intellectual actor (intellectual dader) behind the network of cases of smuggling 2 tons of drugs using the Sea Dragon ship, after the arrest of the ship's crew (ABK).
According to Aboe, the arrest of ABK from Medan, North Sumatra, Fandi Ramadhan, does not necessarily solve the case because logically, he is only a crew member who is certainly not the owner of the Sea Dragon Ship.
"It is also impossible for him to have the financial ability to buy or control 2 tons of drugs. By arresting and imprisoning Fandi, it does not mean that this case is over," Aboe said in a statement received, Monday, February 23.
Aboe emphasized that in the criminal process, punishing ABK could indeed be carried out if found guilty. However, he reminded the authorities not to make them a scapegoat in order to close down a major case that should be thoroughly investigated.
"Don't let law enforcement stop at the field perpetrators. Punishing ABK can be done according to the facts of the trial, but don't let them become a burden. The apparatus must be able to uncover and arrest the intellectual perpetrators of this case," he said.
The legislator from the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) assessed that smuggling drugs in very large quantities such as 2 tons clearly involves an organized network, ranging from financiers, distribution controllers, to field operators.
"The entire network, from financiers, logistics organizers, to operators, must be held criminally responsible. This is not a small crime, this is a structured and massive crime that damages the nation's generation," said Aboe.
He added that drug eradication could not be done by simply arresting and punishing field pawns. Law enforcement, according to him, must touch the root of the problem.
"If we only arrest couriers and ABK, the network will continue to grow. The eradication of drugs must go to the root, namely the intellectual actors and the big financiers behind it. Without it, the war on drugs will never really be won," he said.
He also encouraged law enforcement officials to work professionally, transparently, and accountable in investigating this case so that public confidence in efforts to eradicate drugs is maintained.
"Commission III of the DPR RI will certainly pay serious attention to handling this case. We want to ensure that the law is enforced fairly and thoroughly, not selective," said Aboe Bakar.
