JEMBER - Minister of Public Works Dody Hanggodo suggested the construction of a four-lane flyover at the Mangli intersection, Jember Regency, East Java, as a long-term solution to easing congestion.

"If a flyover is built, it is better to have four lanes so that it will be safe for the next 20 years. If there are only two lanes, I am afraid that in five years it will be full again. Traffic jams on flyovers are much more dangerous than traffic jams on ordinary roads," said Dody when reviewing the location of the planned construction of a flyover in the Mangli area, quoted from Antara. Sunday, February 22.

The plan to build the Mangli flyover is one of the focuses of the Minister of PU's working visit to Jember. The discussion was held with the Regent of Jember Muhammad Fawait, covering the urgency of construction, technical design, to the project implementation scheme.

According to Dody, technically the Mangli intersection can still be handled through traffic management. However, the projection of the growth of the area and the direction of Jember's industrialization are the main considerations for the need for long-term infrastructure.

He emphasized that the readiness of the land was a prerequisite for the project to be realized immediately. The central government targets the construction to begin in 2026 with an estimated time of about three years. However, according to the request of the Jember Regency Government, the two initial lines are expected to be completed faster.

Regent Muhammad Fawait assessed the construction of the Mangli flyover as a strategic step to open investment space in Jember. According to him, the congestion that almost occurs every day at the intersection has the potential to hinder investor interest.

"If congestion is left unchecked, it is not attractive for investors. Industrialization requires adequate infrastructure. We want Jember to be more advanced, and it must be prepared from now," said Fawait.

He added that the construction of the flyover was not just a physical project, but a symbol of Jember's readiness in welcoming economic growth and investment in the future. With the synergy of the central and regional governments, the project is expected to be a milestone in transforming infrastructure and unraveling the knots of congestion that have occurred so far.

During his working visit to Jember, the Minister of PU also reviewed the bridge that was broken due to flooding in Pakusari Village as well as the plan to revitalize Tanjung Market before reviewing the location of the Mangli flyover.
