Fell on Barelang Bridge 3, SAR Evacuated the Body of a Young Man

JAKARTA - The SAR team joined forces to successfully find a young man who fell on the 3rd Barelang Bridge, Batam City, Riau Islands, in a dead condition and was evacuated to the Bhayangkara Hospital of the Riau Islands Police.

The body of Setia Budi (24) was found on the fourth day of the search and rescue operation carried out by a joint SAR from the Basarnas element, Ditpolairud Polda Kepri, Polresta Barelang Bakamla, Polsek Bulang and also the community, Saturday.

"The victim who fell from the Barelang 3 Bridge on Wednesday (18/2) was finally found dead," said Tanjungpinang SAR Head Fazzli.

The body of Setia was found at 10.40 WIB, 0.5 nautical miles (NM) from the crash site.

The search for Setia has been carried out since the news of the fall was received on Wednesday (18/2). The SAR team consists of 15 people, involving SAR equipment in the form of a set of Rubber Boat Pos SAR Batam, RIB Bakamla, RIB 03 Ditpolairud Polda Kepri, KP Polair Polresta Barleang and long boats belonging to fishermen.

The second day of Thursday (19/2) the search for Setia was hampered by bad weather, moderate to heavy rain that hit Batam City for a full day, causing the SAR operation to be temporarily halted.

The search continued on the third day, Friday (20/2), with weather conditions supporting a full day of search, but without result.

Setia's existence was only discovered on the fourth day of the search, this afternoon in a state that was still intact and could be recognized.

"The condition of the victim was found to be still recognizable," said Head of the Batam SAR Post Dedius.

With the victim having been found, the joint SAR team carried out a debriefing. At 12.00 WIB, the SAR operation was officially closed.

Setia Budi is reported to have jumped from Barelang Bridge 3. According to family information, this action was triggered by personal problems.

This is the first suicide case evacuated by the joint SAR in 2026.

In 2025, four suicide attempts occurred, one of which was successfully prevented by residents. Meanwhile, in 2024, four suicide attempts also occurred and one was successfully prevented.

The Bulang Police have put up a banner at the 3rd Barelang Bridge as an effort to prevent similar actions from occurring. The community around the bridge has also been invited to be concerned and can prevent suicide.
