KENDARI - The Criminal Investigation Unit (Satreskrim) of the Kendari City Police (Polresta), Southeast Sulawesi (Sultra), has dismantled a motorcycle theft syndicate that has acted in 74 locations.
The Regional Police Chief of South Sumatra, Inspector General Didik Agung Widjanarko, said that these perpetrators had acted in several areas in South Sumatra.
"In the disclosure, the Kendari Police have secured four suspects with 73 units of motorbikes as a result of the crime," said Didik Widjanarko as reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, February 18.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Kendari Police, AKP Welliwanto Malau, explained that his party had secured four suspects, including MA, MAY, and DI who played the role of executor, as well as the initials F as the receiver of stolen goods.
The evidence seized in the form of 73 motorbikes was found in three areas, including Moramo Utara, Angata, and in Morowali Regency.
"Based on the results of the investigation, this network has acted in at least 74 locations (crime scenes) spread across three regions, including 34 crime scenes in Kendari City, 20 crime scenes in Konawe Regency, and another 20 crime scenes in South Konawe Regency," explained Welliwanto.
Welliwanto Malau revealed that the suspects who were arrested were indeed specialists in the field of motor theft with a very structured role division.
"Motorcycles stolen in Kendari are sold to Morowali, while stolen motorcycles from Morowali are marketed in Kendari City. This modus operandi is carried out so that the vehicle's trail is difficult to track," he said.
The stolen goods were sold at varying prices, ranging from Rp3 million for a regular motorcycle to Rp10 million per unit for a trail motorcycle.
"In fact, motorcycles that are not intact or without frames are still sold in the black market at a price of around Rp3 million," he said.
His party appealed to the public who felt that they had lost their motorcycles to immediately come to the Kendari Police with valid vehicle documents.
"In total, there are 73 motor units that we have secured. We appeal to residents who feel lost to come to Kendari Police with the completeness of documents. The process of taking is not charged any fee," added Welliwanto Malau.
