PU Ministry Targets the Second Phase of People's Schools in North Sumatra to Be Completed in June 2026

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works (PU) targets the completion of the second phase of the People's School in five districts/cities in North Sumatra by the end of June 2026.

"The second phase of the People's School, namely in Medan City, Deli Serdang Regency, Serdang Bedagai Regency, South Tapanuli Regency, and Padangsidempuan City, will be completed by the end of June 2026," said Head of the Strategic Infrastructure Implementation Unit of the Strategic Infrastructure Directorate General of the Ministry of PU Kurniawan in Central Tapanuli, quoted by Antara, Tuesday, February 17.

Kurniawan said the second phase of the People's School, which was built in North Sumatra, was an empty lot with an area of around five hectares. Each school has a construction progress of 8 percent.

"The initial obstacles, such as in South Tapanuli with land near the ravine, and the planning was not copied because it was covered with bushes, if Padangsidimpuang is related to SMK Agriculture, but now there are no more obstacles," he said.

Kurniawan added that the second phase of the People's School has infrastructure facilities that are very supportive of education, such as having sports facilities, dormitories and classrooms from elementary, middle and high schools.

"Then the teacher room, laboratory and teacher dormitory. One second phase People's School in North Sumatra can accommodate as many as 1,080 people," he said.

The head of the North Sumatra Provincial Social Service, Asren Nasution, previously said that the construction of five People's Schools in five regencies/cities in the North Sumatra region was prepared with a total budget of Rp. 1.2 trillion.

According to him, the People's School in North Sumatra will have the same building shape as the People's School in other provinces in Indonesia.

"The President has given instructions in a limited meeting on March 4, 2025, that the construction of the People's School will be carried out in 2025-2026," said Asren.
