Viral Racist Insult on Transjakarta Bus, the Perpetrator Recorded Saying "Chinese Go to the Hotel Sana"

JAKARTA - A video of a racist act on a Transjakarta bus went viral on social media and was criticized by netizens. In the footage, a male passenger uttered a discriminatory sentence to a female passenger while the bus was operating.

The incident is said to have occurred at 17.50 WIB on the 10H route bus. The victim, who was standing next to his lover, suddenly received a racial tone from a man who was not far away from him.

The man was recorded saying, "Chinese go to the hotel there." The statement immediately sparked tension on the bus, which was filled with passengers.

The victim did not stay silent. He reprimanded the perpetrator to defend himself. The debate was heated and attracted the attention of other passengers. A witness who was right behind the perpetrator also defended the victim and confirmed that the man was the first to start the provocation.

Head of the Public Relations and CSR Department of PT Transportasi Jakarta, Ayu Wardhani, said his party regretted the incident.

"Transjakarta deeply regrets the incident committed by one customer against another customer, as recorded in the video," Ayu told reporters, Monday, February 16.

He appealed to all passengers to respect each other while using public transportation services. According to him, mutual comfort and safety are the responsibility of all users.

"Please report any form of discomfort or unpleasant actions to our officers in the field or through the 1500-102 call center," he said.

Ayu also appreciated other passengers who dared to remind the perpetrator when the incident took place.

"We appreciate other customers who also remind us. Let's take care of each other and create a comfortable atmosphere for all customers," he said.
