JAKARTA - President Prabowo Subianto said that the Free Nutritious Meal or MBG program kitchen is projected to absorb around 1.5 million workers.
"From MBG alone, now more than one million people are working. At the end, 1.5 million people will work every day," said Prabowo when explaining the latest developments in the implementation of the MBG program, reported by ANTARA, Friday, February 13.
According to the President, MBG not only focuses on meeting people's nutritional needs, but also opens up wide employment opportunities through the development of Nutrition Fulfillment Service Units (SPPG).
President Prabowo said that on Friday morning the SPPG owned by the police had been inaugurated with a total facility that was targeted to be completed later reaching more than 1,100 units.
The Head of State admitted that he was impressed by the quality of the facility, including the use of advanced domestic production equipment to ensure the cleanliness of water, eating utensils, and waste management programs.
According to the President, currently the MBG program has been supported by more than 23 thousand SPPG kitchens throughout Indonesia.
At its peak, the MBG program is targeted to reach more than 82 million beneficiaries with the support of more than 30 thousand kitchens.
"Each kitchen employs around 50 people," said Prabowo.
In addition to direct labor, the President said, each kitchen also boosted the emergence of five to ten food suppliers.
The President explained that these suppliers involved farmers and ranchers at the local level, ranging from vegetable and fish farmers to chicken, goat, and dairy farmers.
"The economy in the village is alive. Vegetable farmers, fish farmers, chicken farmers, goat farmers, dairy farmers, all believe that the results are immediately bought and not far away because in each village they can have a fixed market, a guaranteed market. This creates an economy from below," said the Head of State.
The President explained that a number of regional heads had reported that they had begun to feel the dynamics of economic growth in the regions supported by MBG program activities, especially in the agricultural sector and local food supply chain.
